    Aside from the anxiety caused by Tuesday night’s debate, the woman also said her cars have been vandalized twice in the middle of the night. She woke up one morning to broken windows and another to acid thrown on the vehicle. She’s added cameras to her driveway and tried to report the incidents to the police to no avail.

    Rightwing politics is stochastic terrorism.

    Over the past few months, nearly 20,000 Haitians have settled in Springfield over the past four years.

    Which is it? Months or years? I hate the death of journalism and lack of copy editing.

    “They can vomit all the hate they want about illegal immigrants, the Border crisis and even untrue claims about fluffy pets being ravaged and eaten by community members,” Clark continued. “However they are not allowed nor have they ever been allowed to mention Aiden Clark from Springfield Ohio.

    That’s quite a principled stand, allowing for lies about other subjects. Why not condemn all of it.

    They want these attacks on immigrants to happen so they can step up the immigration causes problems attacks, is anyone on the right caring enough, or aware enough, to try to stop the self fulfilling prophecy?

    This is the direct result of open borders and shipping people into the heart of the country as a political play by the states in the south.

    People would get mad about/ believe anything. It is purely an emotional response. See reaction to Asians after COVID. Still a problem in NYC.

    Not saying any of it is right but, it’s an issue people are noticing and rallying around.

    I am open to all discussions and always argue in good faith. And up vote anyone who responds to me.

    Otherwise I will just assume you want a very narrow range of talking points / are from a hard left instance.

        Misunderstanding: you assume people are being rational and doing research into these particular families. They are not.

        These are a convenient scapegoat for a bigger problem.

        These problems are emotional, not rational or logical.

          Every faux news article implies that they are homeless refugees who were dumped in the town by Joe Biden personally.

          I feel compelled to point out that they are employed taxpayers whenever it comes up.

            I will make the effort to explain that I don’t agree with these feelings I am explaining.

            Just explaining the “thought process”. Since I grew up among them.

            Since people on Lemmy tend to be really left, and can’t comprehend why the right does what they do.

                Well I honestly think there is more nuance than that. And writing them off doesn’t help.

                We should take time to listen and educate people.

                Same as anything else you ever learned. If your math teacher called you a dummy, are you more or less likely to pay attention next class?

      If you think one of the most dangerous and heavily guarded borders in the world is “open”, I’d love to hear what you call our border with Canada and why more people aren’t coming through there instead.
