What is the reasoning behind this? What is the issue with just checking IDs like they do now?

I could give you a ten page dissertation on the abusive overreach and authoritarian antics of the WSLCB. They have gotten better over the last several years post COVID, but they are still a fundamentally corrupt institution that only cares about exerting power and control over anything they get their hands on. This is just one more in a long line if examples I could give where they subterfugely push bad ideas in an attempt to exert and expand the mandate of their authority.
