    Location: USA, Pacific northwest.

The local ranger station that supervises the national forest (including wildland fire) is down to a skeleton crew. People who used to fight forest fires are being pulled to do other jobs, which is concerning heading into a possible fire season.

The national forest is asking for members of the public to come forward and volunteer to do a whole range of jobs that used to be done by paid professionals who have been terminated --they want to replace these people by volunteers.

However, the administration has ALSO ordered the national forest that they cannot make any public statements or advertise these volunteer positions. They have been gagged such that the public doesn’t even know that volunteers are being recruited to keep things going.

I bought the first parts of my own fire suppression system yesterday… We are apparently being thrown to the wolves.
