The biggest piece of information I got from this is that Gitlab has no interest in implementing federation. There’s a group of French universities that plan to get a group together to implement it and seriously hope they succeed, although I’d love it much more if they implemented it in Forgejo. Otherwise, they are doing free work for Gitlab that just keeps focusing on other stuff regardless of the benefits federation would bring.
