I’m more interested in the headline about Trump lying during the debate. Not that I doubt it. But more about how the sum total of the response to it is basically “ah well nevertheless”.
This is supposed to not only be a democracy, but also THE democracy and all other democracies that are not this democracy are not democracies. Meanwhile a dude just gets on a podium, spews bullshit on national televison debate and gets off scott free. How do western chauvinists live with this.
Usually what I see is this sense of noble, aloof resignation; a lie makes it halfway around the world before the truth gets out of the starting block, woe is me for having the burden of recognizing the truth from the lies.
What libs fail to recognize is that lies are not dished out arbitrarily, they’re done for a conviction, a value, to signify to a base that its needs are seen and being addressed. It doesn’t matter if Trump overstates the number of annual illegal border crossings because the point isn’t the specifics, it’s communicating to people anxious about foreigners, “I am looking out for you.” Libs fail at this because they think the abstract concept of “Truth” is a value unto itself and that conviction/base bit is icky politics. So it gets treated like getting a question right on a current events quiz.
They’ve been screaming that Trump will literally end american democracy for 8 years and they haven’t stopped. Last nights debate wasn’t anything new from Trump. And they learned the hard way that pointing out his lies doesn’t do shit to stop him. Seeing their champion, who’s supposed to save democracy, blue-screen on stage, however. That scared the fuck out of them.
I assume that it’ll probably take at least a few days to work out an exhaustive list, but yeah if you were the new york crimes you’d think you could maybe put your in-progress article on the front page.
CNN had a fact checker after the debate itemize over 30 lies Trump said within the hour. He also said Biden had like 9 lies but never itemized them. I imagine because they were incomprehensible.
Some of the online ones tried to do the Biden ones but the numbers ended up being anywhere between 10-25 depending on whether you counted him changing, correcting, or uncorrecting statistics again later and how generous they were in just going ‘that was less a lie and more just nonsense’.

It’s not lying if you’re not making any sense in the first place

They did itemize them, they were mostly misstatements or inaccuracies, but some were bad wrong.
His lies don’t even register to me, because it’s typical conservative nonsense.
Democratic lies are much more insulting to me
