minus-square@cordlesslamplinkEnglish3•edit-21 month agoAt least in southeast Asia, teenagers has been doing that since the late 90s - early 2000s (I was one of them). AFAIK, the Japanese emoticons use a lot of Japanese characters (letters?). For example, ／(=✪㉨✪=)＼ or (ﾉ´ヮ`)ﾉ*: ･ﾟ
