Sync Ultra is a very reasonable $17 a YEAR. YouTube Premium is reaching that per MONTH. I have sync downloaded and it was the first thing I did. Thanks lj for the beautiful app.

[EDIT: That was a poor comparison, as pointed out in the comments. Leaving it for discussion sake.

There are many counterpoints and actually good discussion happening down below. Even if you don’t agree, thanks for showing me a different perspective!

If you want to support Sync, make sure to support the Lemmy Devs and your instance holders as well!

Perhaps, but maintaining an instance the size of lemmy.world doesn’t come cheap either. Also, I doubt Sync took more than 2 months, considering how long ago it was that Reddit shut that down.

Yeah Lemmy.world is way too big now, will be really expensive for the owners. I think it would have been smart to close sign-ups long ago.

Of the top 3 instances, lemmy.world is the only one that should’ve closed their registrations weeks ago, but they probably won’t ever do so. I’ll eat my socks if they do.

I think all big ones should close to let users spread to smaller ones. But won’t happen. Everyone wants to be the largest.

I would close the top 25 ones.

Nah, I’d just close LW. They are the biggest by a superlong shot. They have nearly triple the users of lemmy.ml, the 2nd largest instance, and nearly 8x more users than lemm.ee, an instance I actually like for their professionalism.
