No. ChatGPT being overused as a “replacement” for real people doing real jobs made it an “other” against which we rally. Our disdain against which there is no victim.

ChatGPT neither knows nor cares that I call it a Clanker. I’ll probably forget about this in a week anyway. But in a week I’ll still be reading articles about how companies that lust after money are speculatively laying off people and using AI agents as poor replacements.

You object to the use of any slur. A slur can only be a slur when it communicates hate with the intent of harm. ChatGPT and other LLMs are incapable of feeling emotional harm more than a toaster oven. Understand that disdain for overuse at the expense of real humans is the source of the frustration. There are only human victims.

that’s not my point. i know that chatgpt isn’t sentient, it can’t care about slurs because it’s unable to feel.

if i understand correctly, what you’re saying here is that it’s fine to be pretend-racist to something that is harmful and isn’t human. it’s fine to use tools of oppression against AI because it can’t care, and can’t be affected anyways. two things about this:

      1. boy do i have news for you about the way racists view racialized people!
      2. if it can’t be affected, why bother? you’re saying that what you do is entirely pointless, why do it?

so, the only effect of using slurs against chatbots like this is for Epic Comedy. so you and other people can partake in pretend racism, knowing that it’s ok because there is no social consequences for you! you’re saying that you’re fine with doing racism, just not towards people who might hear you and feel like shit. does that mean that it’s ok to be actually-racist in private? i sure hope you don’t think so but that seems to be what you’re saying!

      or, put more succinctly:
Insult deflection meme. A stick figure labeled "You" is shooting a laser ray labeled "'Clanker' & co" at a stick figure labeled "chatbot who will never care because it's not sentient". That stick figure is then deflecting the ray towards a stick figure labeled "marginalized people who now know you think bigotry is funny".

and to add a bit: i share your disdain for AI and LLMs, and the ways they (or, rather, the capitalists using them) are taking job opportunities away from people. i just don’t think you should be using language rooted in racism to express that disdain.

        Again, no.

Tools of oppression demand 1) someone to be oppressed, and 2) a position of power with which to oppress. Neither of those exist here. How do I with no money oppress something worth billions of dollars?

You mistake tools of solidarity and unification against a common enemy, which seeks to oppress, add “oppression of the oppressor.”

My friend… Even a Clanker is not so naive as to misunderstand this. Go ask one. It can explain it to you.

your “tools of solidarity and unification” are still rooted in racism, my friend. what an idea! using a tool of division and segregation to unite. that can’t possibly go wrong!

anyways im not going to argue further with you cause i think ive made my point clear enough. just… don’t be surprised when your slurs-against-AI movement is comprised almost exclusively of white people.
