Friends of Arturo Gamboa say they don't believe he ever brandished the weapon. Instead, they believe the shooting was a deadly miscommunication — someone overreacting because he was open-carrying.

A self-described “peacekeeper” shot three times at Gamboa. At least one of the bullets hit Gamboa in the side. Another bullet accidentally hit and killed a 39-year-old protester.

So some rookie sees a guy peacefully walking around with an AR-15 and starts blasting? Open carry is stupid, carrying an AR-15 alone at a protest is stupid. But it’s still the dude’s right. Maybe the “peacekeeper” was an off duty HiGhlY TraINeD cop.

    There’s no new evidence presented. “He’s an anarchist” has nothing to do with him being an idiot.

    No need to watch the video tape, we have witness testimony from the who just killed someone… Super smart. Ignoring the existence of evidence does not mean the evidence does not exist.

    He got people killed because of his own stupidity and recklessness, and he’s going to go to prison for that.

    Open carry is completely legal in utah. Why are you blaming a person who didn’t do a crime when both parties had firearms? Also, he hasn’t been charged.

    Because self defense laws consider if your actions were reasonable given he situation as you perceived it, and the peacekeepers actions were perfectly reasonable, given the threats against the protest, and this idiots actions.

    Again, walking around with a rifle isn’t a threat to anyone’s life. Meanwhile the organization that set up “peacekeepers” expressly told them not to intervene armed protestors and told them not to be armed.

    I don’t know if you’ve been to a protest in the South, but having people open carry is normal.
