“Well, they did sign up for it, actually. And this is what I campaigned on,” Trump said of the tariffs during an interview with ABC News that aired Tuesday.

And you can’t really argue with that.

I agree with him that physical men must not be allowed to compete in women sports against other physical womans. Its completely unfair to woman who have no chance to reach the physical level a man can reach in strength-based sports. And it kills all motivation for a woman to be an athlete when they cant reach that level.

That doesn’t happen. Men play in men’s sports and women play in women’s sports. If you mean trans people, trans athletes follow some pretty strict guidelines to play in most leagues that don’t give them an unfair advantage (though, to be fair, there may be some physical differences between trans and cis athletes that might affect performance, but studies have shown that these differences do not make for more than a very slight advantage at best (and potentially a large disadvantage at worst!), and I’d argue that most cis athletes would be way better off just doing steroids than spending literal years transitioning to get this fabled advantage that doesn’t exist.)

But trans women do play in women’s sports and trans men do play in men’s sports. Your argument is that trans women should play in men’s sports, yes? Should trans men play in women’s sports? If you don’t believe they should, then you don’t believe they are women (which is valid, because they are, you know, men). But what is different about trans women? It is entirely feelings based, because the evidence doesn’t show that trans athletes crush their competition. It doesn’t even show that they win more often. Because they don’t! They win just as often as you would expect a cis athlete does.

I agree with most of your post. And also, I want to be clear that I support trans people participating in sports.

The problem with studies is that there is literally no data. This is such a statistically insignificant problem there isn’t enough data to go on. There were like 20 trans athletes in total for one of the larger studies.

The data we do have shows mixed results. Trans women tend to perform better in sports that require physical strength, such as weightlifting.

They do not perform better than cis women in cardio events such as running and swimming. Their smaller muscle mass can’t keep up with the larger frame.

Regardless, I think the value that comes from participating in sports is too important to not let them play.

A lot of the bans of trans kids in sports seem to be happening at the age where sports are co-ed so the whole thing is fucking stupid. Just let people play sports.

EDIT: Me: “I’m trying to say I support the trans community and want them in sports.”

Everyone else: “why do you hate trans people?”

Like are we so angry at the world that we instinctively yell at people agreeing with us?

Sure. We don’t necessarily have concrete evidence one way or the other on advantages due to numbers, but of the trans athletes that currently exist, the dis/advantage is unlikely to matter beyond a couple percentage points. With more trans athletes, we can get more determination into what effects transitioning has on athletic ability, but for the most part, it’s not a real issue.

The issue is that the average person thinks there are cismasc athletes registering as transfem, which isn’t a thing.

Yeah that’s the point I was trying to make but it’s clear to me now, I was sounding anti-trans women in sports.

I was saying there are contexts when cis women perform better than trans women and vice versa. Depends on so many things like the sport and the people involved that you can’t just outright ban trans people from sports.

Also, there are so few trans people in sports that they aren’t able to get quality studies done. If there are that few people, why are conservatives spending time trying to harm the trans community? Just leave them alone. They are humans too.

So basically you’re saying we should allow trans people to play in whatever sport they want so we can collect more data.

No, I’m saying we should just allow them to play sports because they’re human just like us.

I’m just saying there is basically no data and there are certain sports where cis women have an advantage of trans women, just as there are sports where it’s the opposite.

I think it’s important to make decisions with factual data and be honest up front. If I tell someone studies show I’m right and then you later find out that I was only talking about one random study with 1 woman, they’re less likely to believe me, if if what I said was valid.

No that’s not what I meant. To be clear, I support trans women playing sports with cisgender women.

I want to be accurate and honest when speaking about it or our side is just as slimy and shady as the other side’s argument.

So you think the most fair option is for this person to be playing in women’s sports:

              An athletic trans man

That appears to be a man. I mean to say women play sports with women. Trans women are women.

Edit: I may not be making myself clear. When I say trans women, I mean a person who was a man at birth and now identifies as a woman.

Maybe I have the terminology wrong?

That’s trying to make this seem like a small issue, when it’s not. It’s not about sports. The right has been using “men in women’s sports” as an excuse to try to hurt people.

You’re making excuses. Saying “ohh it’s just a different opinion” is a way to dismiss actual criticism of your opinion and preemptively try to make anyone who gets mad at you look like they are overreacting.

Your opinion is shitty and didn’t hold up, and it’s a cruel opinion to have.

Since nobody has come out with it yet, I will: you are a bigot. Your views are bigoted. You think it is acceptable to dehumanize and discriminate against an already vulnerable minority because a sports competition might be different. You have decided that somebody doesn’t have a right to exist because there might be a tiny change to your favorite hobby. Are you truly this unempathetic?

Would you like to know that the whole ‘they’re too strong’ excuse was the exact same thing they said about black men in sports? It is exactly the same playbook, and you are falling for it like a sucker.

              Grow up and fix yourself.
