A man was arrested for wearing a mask and possession of a weapon, but critics say law is overly broad and unnecessary
Police in the suburbs of New York City made the first arrest under a new local law banning face masks, officials announced on Tuesday.
Nassau county police say officers on Sunday night responded to reports of a suspicious person on a street near the Levittown and Hicksville town line, about 30 miles (48km) east of Manhattan.
They found Wesslin Omar Ramirez Castillo wearing black clothing and a black ski mask that covered his face, except for his eyes.
I’m not seeing a problem here. Anyone walking through a residential neighborhood after dark while wearing a ski mask in August and carrying a 14" knife probably needs to be talked to.
I feel like the 14" fuck off knife should be enough to give them a talking to.
a 14" knife is illegal in a lot of places. Ironically, things like throwing stars and knives are easier to ban for some reason even though by any definition of “arms” its clear the second amendment applies to things like knives.
Knife bans also get push back. Hawaii had a case earlier this year on the issue. There’s just not as much litigation on it.
