No country has so far officially recognized the Taliban as Afghanistan’s government due to their hard-line policies. The drastic erosion of women’s rights continues.

Interesting how the article fails to mention the $7 billion that the US looted from the Afghan central bank when they pulled out.

Probably because it was the USAs money in the first place. You can’t loot your own checking account.

It’s weird that you would assume something incorrect like that, when you can just google it and find that the money was

the reserves of Afghanistan’s commercial banks and ordinary people’s savings

It’s literally the business and personal savings of the Afghani people, inaccessible to them for over 2 years now.

Bro, you must be living in lala land if you think for a micro second that the Taliban would let the Afghan people keep that money.

They would instantly take the money and buy more bombs and weapons that would hurt more people. Probably buy them from Russia or North Korea. Make it worse for Ukraine.

So the US pulls out knowing what will happen but then also don’t want the new government to have any money since they’ll misuse it, feels like the US is also fucking the Afghani people over at least a little bit?

What are they supposed to do?

Even if your cartoonish depiction of the Taliban was true, it is not a good justification for the US to freeze all of the bank accounts in Afghanistan.

First of all, it’s not all banks. It’s Afghan banks located in the United States. Secondly, they are far from being cartoonish.

Not really. They no longer have an enemy to worry about, they’d have no need for any type of heavy armament beyond border defense. They already have more than enough small arms.

Otherwise they would have properly repaired and reused the massive amount of vehicles left behind by the USA (they did a few to show off).

They wanted to be left alone and they got their wish, which is why they don’t even bother to attempt with being recognized.

I think there was even a rumor that Mullah Omar kept the nation’s finances under his bed instead of a bank because it was that trivial of an issue for him.
