Great to see them 😊
I waddled onto the beach and stole found a computer to use.

Great to see them 😊
Pixelfed is most likely to be the next one, and we haven’t ruled out anything yet. It depends on what’s popular and what there is a need for (ex. someone else isn’t already hosting)
We’ve researched and/or done some prep for Bookwyrm, Loop, Friendica, Sublinks, and Mobilizon. The exact list is uncertain, but the migration will give us lots of room to grow. I’m thinking once we announce one, we can ask what people want next.
Not at all, that’s fair to ask!
Right now the focus is on moving to our new hardware, with some more details in the body of this post.

Once that’s done we will be able to spin up additional services much more easily, and it will also change our estimated financial situation (donations vs. costs etc.)
We’ve also been busy the past few months with other things (especially me) and so I haven’t been able to post updates as often as I would have wanted to. Thankfully I’ve got a lot more time in the new year so that should be different moving forward :)
Was there a certain aspect you wanted to hear back on? I can write up more details on that in the meantime
I went in with a similar thought, but the video explained it better
I was expecting them to compete against a rapper or something, but what they meant was being faster than conversational speeds
Someone who is mute explained to them about not being able to communicate at the same rate as other people during conversation, despite being able to think and absorb info at the same speed.
So they put some time into recommendations of a text-to-voice setup, demo-ed it in the video, and put the source CAD files / app open for people to use + offered to help anyone else for whom the tech might change their lives
I’m not sure if the keyboard will catch on, but I thought that attempt was cool
You don’t need to register as it is a free drop-in session
This is a Drop-in session. No ‘registration’ required …(BUT! Registering with Meetup will give you reminders and the ability to schedule this on your calendar.)

For me it was less about not seeing the problem with it (I don’t trust them at all), and more about making sure that people pick Mastodon instead of Threads.
Which is why I was pushing for instances to not fully defederate, but use settings that hide the content by default and let users opt in to see it. That way if someone has 1 friend/local entity that they want to follow on threads, they can still pick Mastodon and opt in to see that content.
After the recent changes, I’m not sure if that’s the right move anymore
That is odd, I’m on Boost as well and haven’t noticed this. I’ll pass it along to the team and poke around!
The outage was a hardware issue and I don’t think we changed any site configuration since then. At least on our end, having the hardware replaced seemed to have fixed the occasional hiccups we were seeing.
In the meantime, could you try clearing the app’s cache? Boost lets you make a backup of the settings, which can help give peace of mind before doing resets.
If anyone else has this problem, please do share!
We believe that the washing machine is the hearth of the modern laundry room
I was going to try and edit in some more "AI"s but it’s already near saturated
They even changed their name to SoundHound AI?
https://www.theverge.com/2025/1/9/24339817/vlc-player-automatic-ai-subtitling-translation
The popular open-source VLC video player was demonstrated on the floor of CES 2025 with automatic AI subtitling and translation, generated locally and offline in real time. Parent organization VideoLAN shared a video on Tuesday in which president Jean-Baptiste Kempf shows off the new feature, which uses open-source AI models to generate subtitles for videos in several languages.
Ok now that’s cool. Since it’s often all doom and gloom here, celebrating good tech is a nice change :)
I looked up “Parent AI”, and was disappointed
That all sounds delicious 😊
also thank you for adding photos of the process in the comments!
Wow those are beautiful, what are the flavors?
Reminds me of this one

when you rob a big tech company, but the employees are…
(that’s the title of the video, the clickbait isn’t me)
No problem, I had to ask as well when I was looking for it :)

CBC’s About That series is excellent at doing a deep dive on an issue. It makes it easier to discuss the topics with other people

There are a few brands that make decent backpacks/satchels in the 10L - 20L size, within that price range. They’re very helpful
