Demigodrick@lemmy.zipOPMto Announcements@lemmy.zip•Announcing: Piefed.zip - our new Piefed instance!English1·2 days agoWe will be doing our usual server updates for piefed as well so will share this info!
Demigodrick@lemmy.zipOPMto Announcements@lemmy.zip•Announcing: Piefed.zip - our new Piefed instance!English14·2 days agoI’d say its similar to lemmy, but with features people have asked for like a way to combine the feeds of similar communities and more moderation options.
The easiest way I can explain it though is to encourage people to just check it out. It’s not as mature in some places, but has lots of features you didn’t realise you were missing until you tried them :)
It used activitypub, the same as lemmy, so you can find and interact with all the communities you do on lemmy too.

Demigodrick@lemmy.zipOPMto Announcements@lemmy.zip•Announcing: Piefed.zip - our new Piefed instance!English5·2 days agoHey, yeah it is. We will enable the API soon - we just wanted to get everything up before we enabled it :) we’ll need it for our bot stuff anyway.
Demigodrick@lemmy.zipOPMto Announcements@lemmy.zip•Announcing: Piefed.zip - our new Piefed instance!English8·2 days agoHey, all good questions.
Different hardware, piefed.zip is running on a cloud vps. Still with hetzner so the admin team can access & troubleshoot.
Donations wise, if piefed takes off we’ll probably go down a joint .zip dono route, rather than distinctly donating to each individual server. If nothing else, its easier to manage one dono page/setup than multiple. In the meantime I’ll fund at least month 1 until I’m happy either way. Lemmy.zip is still my baby and won’t be going anywhere. But yes I’ll do some comms around that when I’m happy with a solution.
Piefed offers more in terms of moderation and enables a wider “staff” team, which is a level that lemmy is missing, I.e. an instance moderator. We’ve already started to leverage that, so that the moderation isn’t just on the admin team, rather trusted community members can help out. Happy for anyone to reach out if they’re planning on switching to piefed and want to help out.
Demigodrick@lemmy.zipOPMto Announcements@lemmy.zip•Announcing: Piefed.zip - our new Piefed instance!English8·2 days agoHey, much like lemmy, it won’t pull posts from before the first user subscribed (in this case you!) However, piefed has a feature where you can import posts in to the community if they’re not already there. I’ll pull a few of them now, so keep an eye on it :)
Demigodrick@lemmy.zipOPMto Announcements@lemmy.zip•Announcing: Piefed.zip - our new Piefed instance!English14·2 days agoHey, so better is more of an objective term - piefed offers a more comprehensive moderation experience for admins and mods, and addresses some of the issues that users raise around multiple communities and account settings etc.
Piefed runs on activitypub just like lemmy does, so are compatible with eachother - you probably already see piefed users and communities in your lemmy feed.
I wouldn’t say there is an argument either way from a user perspective- I’d encourage people to try both and see what they like.
There are no front ends yet that work with piefed (like tesseract or photon) but they’re being worked on. There’s also only a few apps, but similarly these are being worked on too, so before long you can probably interact with either software through an app.
Lemmy was the first and so is the most popular, and I hope the devs are able to bring some of the moderation features over to lemmy too, as it is quite a limited experience in comparison to many fediverse softwares.
Hope that helps, but tldr try both and see which one you like, they can interact with eachother anyway, I.e. https://piefed.zip/c/home can be interacted with via https://lemmy.zip/c/home@piefed.zip
Demigodrick@lemmy.zipOPMto Announcements@lemmy.zip•Announcing: Piefed.zip - our new Piefed instance!English14·2 days agoslight edit to this reply from when it was posted
Currently under review - there are other tools built in to Piefed we might be able to use other than a full geoblock. We could comply with the OSA by preventing UK IP addresses from creating accounts. Unfortunately we’d need a country level NSFW toggle to allow UK users to join.
Still early days, so I can’t rule it out though.
Demigodrick@lemmy.zipto Star Trek@lemmy.zip•can I start watching ST with one of the newer shows, or is everything dependent on what came before?English4·5 days agoI have kind of a background knowledge, but did exactly that and have almost finished Lower Decks. It is the first ST thing i’ve watched for years, and yeah there are some references but overall I think you’d really enjoy it without knowing about the full history.
About to start of Strange New Worlds :)
Lemm.ee didn’t shut down because it was financially unsustainable though. It shut down because the admin team didn’t want to do it anymore.
Plenty of people have offered to take lemm.ee on and AFAIK nothing has progressed, but handled in a different way there could have been continuity and no need for users to transition away.
Given that the issue wasn’t one of finance and rather one of effort/will, how does charging for access change anything? The owner could decide they have had enough, walk away, and shut everything down anyway, no?
@Untold1707@lemmy.zip @nasi_goreng@lemmy.zip
@Neon_Carnivore@lemmy.zipI will be in touch, well done 😁
Thank you, glad you enjoyed it! 😊
❤️ two years already 😱
I very briefly played voidcrew and refunded it. Jump ship is far superior, even for a demo.
Been playing this for a couple of days with friends - amazing game, demo is great. Like a mix of deep rock, sea of theives etc. Really worth checking out.
In the bit you edit the community, you can set it to moderator posts only, which effectively locks the community.
Hey! I’ve logged it here: https://github.com/sheodox/alexandrite/issues/123
Lemm.ee doesn’t use the proxy so we need the alexandrite devs help to figure this out. Just waiting for them to respond.
