    It’s pretty universal that converts are extra zealous to prove their faith to other, while lifelong adherents don’t feel the need to prove anything.

    Lifelong Catholics I know fit this precisely.

    I also know one convert. The most chuddy person I know. He was fairly reactionary before he converted but had gotten way worse since. He hates Pope Francis and doesn’t believe in evolution.

    The painful truth is that lifelong catholics haven’t read much of their history, and many recent converts clearly did. I wouldn’t be surprised if this pattern holds to most religions. I’m also curious how others counter this problem.
