This also suffers from Microsofts consistent issues where they just don’t try. They designed them and didn’t do anything with them, they barely iterated the product. I happen to have 2 because it’s cheap. This is also an issue with the surface tablets. They have a stylus that works really well in art programs, but it absolutely sucks when you want to actually be productive with documents as in writing and filling out forms and not marking up PDFs. Same with the windows phone and windows ce, no follow through at all.

I wanted the surface line to be good… I wanted it so bad I’ve owned 4 of them.

      The story of “almost”

I was probably well into fanboy status with Windows Phone. I wanted that to succeed so badly I also owned 4 different devices.

I have a Samsung Odyessy+ and it works…ok. I’m on Win 10 still, so should still work for a few more years I reckon. 90% of the time I just use BigSceen for movies. Not a huge loss for me, plus the thing is like 4 years old!

Oh, that thing that could never entice me into clicking on it because it was forced down my throat with every windows installation is going away? Huzzah!

This is the best summary I could come up with:

The company says Windows Mixed Reality is “deprecated and will be removed in a future release of Windows.” Microsoft first introduced Windows Mixed Reality in 2017 as part of its bid to compete with virtual reality rivals like HTC and Oculus (now owned by Meta).

Windows Mixed Reality served as a portal to games, apps, and other experiences within the VR space.

In addition to the Microsoft HoloLens, other companies, including Acer, Dell, Lenovo, Asus, HP, and Samsung, made mixed reality headsets compatible with Microsoft’s platform.

It doesn’t look like the enterprise-focused HoloLens 2 is going anywhere for now, though, as Microsoft added a free Windows 11 upgrade and several other improvements for the $3,500 headset earlier this year.

HoloLens boss Alex Kipman left last year over allegations of sexual misconduct, and the company later cut 10,000 jobs, many of which affected the workers behind Microsoft’s mixed reality projects, including the now-discontinued AltspaceVR app.

It also started letting Quest users access Office apps and its Xbox Cloud Gaming platform through a partnership with Meta.
