I started listening to fill the magnus archives shaped hole in my heart while I wait for some friends to catch up, but so far each episode has been banger after banger.

couldn’t get into this one but absolutely love its much more stripped-down predecessor from the same studio, I Am In Eskew. the only horror pod I really like (so far).

How does the horror stack up? I liked the Magnus archives quite a bit until the final season. It wasn’t bad at the end but it barely seemed creepy anymore and that’s what I was there for.

Started this one, like some of the ideas (The Saint Electric and the Grinding Lord being so weird and awful in spite of being the “good” civilized gods is cool) but the audio was so quiet it was hard to hear during commutes or on earbuds during dishes/mowing.

Yeah for real, the way the good gods are introduced as “civilized alternatives” and then are revealed to still be so awful. The slag king sticks out and so do the stewards (the train ppl) particularly. I’m sympathetic to your audio issues I have the same issue with this and the magnus archives on most platforms, but the (proprietary disgost ) podcast app I use now, pocket casts, has this lil voice boost feature that makes them a bit more listenable.

The grinding lord is so strange I wasn’t really paying attention to the state of the radio guy until now and he’s really going through it

TSV slaps, absolutely incredible on every level, the characters, character development, the worldbuilding, the themes, the performances, the soundscaping, and so on and so forth. And it just gets better and better as it goes on. Far and away the best audiodrama I’ve ever listened to, highly recommend.

I’ve listened to the whole thing. About half way through it topped the magnus archives and became my favorite podcast. The ending didn’t turn out quite as well as I hoped but it was still far from bad and I honestly don’t know that there even was a way to end it in a completely satifying manner.

Not sure if you’ve met Acantha yet but she is easily my favorite character in the whole series and probably the only genuinely good character too. I’m pretty sure she comes in early in season 2.

Do I need to finish the Magnus archives before listening to the Magnus protocol? I’ve heard amazing things but I’ve been loving going through it blind and I didn’t want to risk spoiling anything by jumping to it so soon

You don’t have to but I would really recommend finishing the archives first, there’s a lot of references to it in the protocol that are fun to recognize

It takes places in what’s kinda a different universe or maybe dimension than the archives so things won’t really be spoiled for the archives though
