Théophile Ferré was a leader of the Paris Commune who was executed by the French government on this day in 1871. Ferré personally authorized the execution of the archbishop of Paris and was the first of 25 Communards to be executed.

Little is known about Ferré’s early life, before his participation in the Paris Commune. After Paris was seized by revolutionaries in March 1871, Ferré served on the Commune’s Committee of Public Safety, a body given extensive powers to hunt down enemies of the Commune.

On April 5th, the Commune passed a decree that authorized the arrest of any person thought to be loyal to the French government in Versailles, to be held as hostages. Prominent figures arrested included a Catholic priest Georges Darboy and the archbishop of Paris. The Commune hoped to exchange their hostages for Louis-Auguste Blanqui, a revolutionary and honorary President of the Commune, imprisoned by the state.

Following the events of the “Bloody Week”, in which the French government summarily executed many suspected Communards, Ferré authorized the execution of several hostages, including Darboy and the archbishop.

After the resistance of the Commune collapsed, Ferré was captured by the army, tried by a military court, and sentenced to death. On November 28th, 1871, he was shot at Satory, an army camp southwest of Versailles. He was the first of twenty-five Communards to be executed for their role in the Paris Commune.

Wanted to buy a soundbar for the living room TV, even though its on its last legs, since dad usually has the volume high and it sounds awful. The TV is old though and I was hoping to be able it had HDMI ARC so that I could set it up so that it turns on with the TV. I had my counts though so I did a search. The AI result said yes, but checking the manual on theanufacturer website indicated that it does not.

I decided to check the sources for the AI results and none of the links mentioned the TV model number with HDMI ARC. It just decided to piece together two separate sources of information to give an inaccurate answer. I love AIdean-neutral

Gf’s sibling is recounting a story about a co-op that was making a game to “teach with empathy about the Kosovo war about a dog” and how awful a time it was and they probably never ended up making that game.

Still november, and it’s nice and cool and some snow has just started falling! I am legitimately happy. I aim to enjoy every cold snowy winter that I can while they still exist in this part of the world. I love winter, and I love snow.

Is there an equivalent for the “helicopter rides” school of thinly veiled, dogwhistly death threats that can be slung back at right wingers in social media arguments?

Always pissed me off that they’re allowed to do that shit but I can’t even tell people they belong in “reeducation camps”.

You could make something out of “face the wall.” They’d have to identify themselves as Nazi adjacent for “follow your leader” to work. But at that point it’s the means by which you disengage for the paradox of intolerance.

In general I feel like your conventional tools of asking them to explain the joke, comparing them unfavorably to characters in media (Charlie Brown kicking the football, Buddy from Elf, a SpongeBob gif), and calling them babygirl/girlypop is better. They probably have a warped sense of masculinity so engaging them with threats over social media is scratching that Clint Eastwood itch.

Off the top of my head: “follow your leader”, “[group/person] gets the wall”, "actually it’s a good thing that your grandma’s [slave plantation/egg farm/toothbrush/pony] got confiscated?

You can maybe also take a visual approach, eg. romanov-wall.jpg, pictures of Lyudmila Pavlichenko/giant spoons/motorised paragliders/[communist “dictator”] with shining laser eyes, the “your grandpa deserved it” video.

Seriously though, dogwhistles shouldn’t be a leftist’s go-to tactic in any remotely serious argument. Shitposting is fun and all, and has a place in conversations among like-minded people, but communist revolution won’t be built using obscure online forum in-jokes. It’s always more important, and productive, in internet debates to focus on clear-headed material analysis and education. There’s a reason why Marx says that Communists disdain to conceal their views and aims, and Sankara says revolutionaries must never stop explaining.

I need me my suave short king media to inspire me and all the characters being mexican is just a bonus

I feel like I’m being subjected to a podcast bit with my bluesky experience, the discover feed just keeps showing me like gay guy thirst traps and I feel like this literally is not something I’ve ever heard anyone mention?

Like I just keep getting guys taking selfies in their underwear or accounts named shit like “chicago daddy dom”, and of course there’s nothing wrong with that costanza-maoist (<- only seinfeld emote I could find)

But I just don’t wanna see these guys and their underwear on my feed all the time, and I don’t know how to tell this app that without just making a giant blocklist of just gay guys, which in itself feels like a modern seinfeld subplot kind of problem.

This sounds really funny. Sounds like it’s youtube but on the absolute opposite end to the point where the site is so gay you start doubting your own gayness because you don’t want the algo to be this incredibly gay.

It feels kind of like you got invited to a bar cause it has like a great live jazz band or something, and it’s not like a “Gay Bar” but there’s a bunch of guys hanging around in assless chaps and what have you.

And like it’s fine but you just never heard anyone talk about this being a bar with that kind of stuff going on, and you didn’t expect a place with like a jazz band to have guys like that but hey, it’s all good.

Just didn’t expect it to be gay like that, y’know?

I just randomly saw the 92 client Eastwood film the unforgiven. I absolutely cannot figure out the themes on this one. It seems to be a clint Eastwood movie about how rascism is wrong and Acab. Which I am down for but isn’t what I expected to see when some family put on an after dinner cowboy movie.
