How I’m reading those news:
“The government responsible for bringing nationalism into the world is now capitalising on the incorrect conflation between a government and its citizens (i.e. nationalism), and misusing a law created to protect individuals against nationalism, so it can censor criticism against a foreign government born out of nationalism.”
This is the best summary I could come up with:
French police are guarding the homes of leading MPs as fears grow of antisemitic violence triggered by Israel’s war with Hamas.
French President Emmanuel Macron was due to give a TV address on Wednesday in a bid to prevent the war from escalating tensions.
Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin told France Inter radio on Thursday that “more than 100 antisemitic acts” had been recorded since hostilities broke out.
A member of President Emmanuel Macron’s Renaissance party, she had parliament lit this week in the colours of the Israeli flag in response to the Hamas attack on Israel and called a minute’s silence before an Assembly session on Tuesday.
Ms Braun-Pivet also announced that Maryam Abu Daqqa, a member of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP), would be banned from attending a documentary screening in parliament next month.
Mr Scholz also announced that pro-Palestinian group Samidoun, which was pictured handing out sweets in the Neukölln area of Berlin to celebrate the Hamas attack, would be banned.
The original article contains 547 words, the summary contains 167 words. Saved 69%. I’m a bot and I’m open source!
Good luck finding someone willing to listen and understand opposite views in this thread!
In this Lemmy thread? Most posters I’ve seen here are pro-Palestine, but most people that I’ve seen discussing this topic are willing to hear reasonable counter-arguments.
Keep in mind however that listening and understanding someone does not imply agreeing with the person.
In this Hacker News thread? …they’re basically Redditors LARPing as h4x0rz. So of course they’re busier assuming words onto each others’ mouths so they can screech “WAAAAH YOU EVIL!” and point fingers, than trying to listen and understand.
I can sympathise with Israeli individuals and Palestinian individuals. At the end of the day, they’re just trying to live their lives. The situation is shitty for both, and it’s mostly the result of Hamas on one side and the state of Israel on the other.
However it would be incorrect to say that it’s equally shitty for both. Palestinians are clearly getting it worse - because the ability of the state of Israel to kill Palestinians is far, far bigger than the ability of Hamas to kill Israelis. And the state of Israel does use it, given its nationalistic mindset that backtracks to its very foundation, even if coated on ancient age superstitions/religion/folklore.
And… well. The governments in Western Europe and USA don’t care about some dead children or whatever. They only care about the state of Israel, as it’s a convenient pet in the Middle East for power projection and commercial partnerships.
It’s the exact same thing in Ukraine, by the way.
