Remember when the Hummer H1 was the biggest, most obnoxious passenger vehicle on the road?
This one is parked between two new Blazers, which are as wide and have distinctly taller hoods.
I drive a 2010 Acura MDX. When I bought it, it was one the largest SUVs in the market. When I bought it people thought it was ridiculous. Jump to today. It’s midsize. I can’t even find it parking lots as it’s dwarfed by every truck and SUV around. Including what used to be economy and entry level vehicles. I have crossbars on it for my kayak to boot.
I drive a 1997 Honda Prelude.
I always park waaaaaaay in the back because there’s no way otherwise. My car comes up to my waist. It’s tiny by comparison. I park it in the garage by my wife’s 2010 Sequoia, and the juxtaposition is hilarious.
I drive an 89 supra, it was kind of a smaller car in it’s day, but certainly far from as small as it feels now. My head is below the “blind” on the newer style headlights that make sure they aren’t blinding drivers despite how crazy bright they are. It’s not alot of fun… but the car is… so I put up with it. I have night driving glasses that severely cut down on that type of glare. It helps, but isn’t magic.
Yo, the Mk III is genuinely my favorite. The Mk IV gets all the love for being in F&F, but the Mk III is just the best looking imo. Like the middle class man’s Testarossa.
I don’t drive the Lude at night specifically because today’s lights are so bad. That, and people drive with their lights off after dark way too much. If I’m out after dark with my Prelude, I probably lost track of time running errands. Unless I’m in proximity to an older Civic or Miata, I just assume I’m completely invisible. Even more so when the sun is down. It’s red so at least it stands out in broad daylight.
The things we deal with to drive the cars we love.
All that said, my other car is a '12 Civic. It’s just boring. But it’s also just light enough that you can kinda chuck it into an on-ramp. I think if I can one of these days, I’d love to buy another just like it, but with a stick. I kinda hate driving the Sequoia. It’s great in a straight line, but it handles like a skyscraper lol
Hehe yeah, mine is white, so visibility is a little easier. But I have definitely had a few times with newer larger vehicles where they either didn’t look down, or couldn’t see me even if they did. Always gotta be on your toes when next to one of these vehicles more than 4x the size of mine, lol.
Edit: A quick little video of it if you are interested. From the day I brought it home.
It’s got a bit of aftermarket stuff, nothing too crazy. Though it did also come with NoS, I disconnected that. And it had street glow, I didn’t intentionally disconnect that, but I did go over the wrong speed bump for a car with only 2 inches of clearance… never really used it anyway as it’s not legal to turn on in public.
I am just a nerd, the poor car has never done over the speed limit for the last 13 years of it’s life. But I feel better knowing that the previous owner made sure it can safely take all these corners at twice the speed I ever would.
I’ve got a Honda fit and a 2012 Sequoia. It’s ridiculous lol
I’ve got a 2024 pilot. It’s fucking big, but it’s considered ‘mid sized’, which blows my fucking mind until I pull up to a Suburban or the like
I drive a newer Tacoma. It looks like a little baby next to full-sized pickups, but it’s a giant if I pull up next to an older Tacoma at a traffic light.
It was like retaliation for that Al Gore climate movie.
“Guys, we might be doing irreversible damage the planet”
“Fuck you! I’m gonna damage the planet even harder!”
And the Hummer has a potential use over a normal car at least. The others are just unnecessarily big, heavy and idiotic.
Not that many people need the off-road capabilities of the Hummer, but at least it could be used for other things than be a nuisance and dangerous.
The H1 is ridiculously unreliable though, it’s not an actual good offroad vehicle compared to more normal alternatives.
The other are does song low profiles on mags too. Like line backer in high heels.
Arheummm… the other one, is set with low profile tire on mag wheels. Like a line backer in high heels.
I think autocorrect fucked this comment, friend.
I agree. Thank you .
You should see what the Hummer can do. It’s actually pretty amazing
we need a comeback of the bumper sticker, “i don’t need an suv, my dick is big enough.”
All truck commercials seem to laser focus on male insecurity.
Can you tow 30,000lbs? That’s right, we thought you weren’t a man.
It’s still very wide. 6" wider than a modern F250!
Not if you include the F-250’s mirrors.
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hummer_H1#:~:text=The H1 models feature a,inch (559 mm) step.
And why do you assume the Hummer measurements include them? (Hint: they don’t, it’s 86" without mirrors)
Indeed. Apparently, the H1’s width, including mirrors, is 101".
I remember FUH2!
The H2 was a steaming pile of shit
compared to the H1.
