Cowardice implies humanity; Don’t ascribe human qualities to a profit machine, regardless of what the supreme Court says. This comes down to board of directors level decisions and they are only on the board as they have been successfully conditioned to accept profit at any cost as an operating model.

I was honestly shocked at the parade of companies slapping rainbows and pride slogans and diversity communications in the 2010s…when most of them had been silent and completely positionless on discrimination towards lgbtq (or any other group) only years prior. What should NOT come as a surprise is that corps showed up for a free commercial lunch in a pre-trump bigotry-is-still-socially-unacceptable era, but as soon as there were implications to their bottom line, they showed their true colors…they don’t care. They are agnostic except profit. Corporations would operate under fascism, a military coup, child raping priest theocracy, anything, as long as they can continue to generate profits.

Principles have costs at some point, and corporations look to cut any costs they can. Corporations (well C corps in the United states anyways) are incapable of values and principles beyond what is required by law; they believe law requires them to prioritize profit at any cost. Remember how many companies hired chief diversity officers after George Floyd and BLM? How many were dismantled or eliminated in the last year?

The revolution will not be televised, and it certainly won’t come from corporate board rooms or product lines.

Exactly! Allies take the same abuse the LGBT+ community does. If you can’t take the heat stop trying to make money off of the community.

PSA: Support your local community for merch regardless what community you belong to. Large corporations may way too much in profits and pay so little back to communities or taxes.

Up until this, Target had done a pretty good job of taking the moral high ground on these issues (de-gendering toys, etc).

Not trying to be a corporate shill, but I will acknowledge that they did an above average job.

…proving that they give zero shits about these types of things, but they will pander to whoever they think they can exploit for profit.

I don’t know why y’all expect a corporation to be the good guys or be heroes. They aren’t there to set an example or do good things. They have one purpose and that is to make money.

    It’s all just marketing.

But it’s good things aren’t being aggressively pushed down our throats all the time.

Oh no. A period of time where you might have to see things that acknowledge that people exist that aren’t exactly like you. How sad for you.

I already know they exist I see them all the time.

Also plenty of people exist it doesn’t mean they all have awful marketing that gets aggressively pushed on people.

I didn’t say that. This is about marketing not about people sad you think they are one and the same.

Oh honey, no. This is not a good hill to die on.

Maybe be more upset by people shoving ads in your face, and less upset by rainbows.

I don’t think marketing is the right term here. It’s more like the everything is in US flag design around 4th July or country flag design of wherever you are from around popular sport events. There is an increased ask for group identification symbols, so there are companies selling them. Very simple ask and offer. It’s not like the LGBTQIA+ community is organized like a company with a head of marketing closing deals with stores like Target to sell their “merch”.

      “Pushed down your throat”?

What, exactly, is being pushed down your throat? A rainbow?

Oh it must be homosexuality if not the literal visible light color spectrum.

Please, I am dying to know, what is your problem with the existence of LGBT folks? What exactly are they shoving down your throat? Being queer is objectively not a choice so I’m not sure what they’re shoving down your throat?

Are you aware what the purpose of a “store” is?

The way you word your comment suggests you are trying to have a rational and reasonable conversation. I’m dying of curiosity.

I haven’t seen pride merch in a store in literal years, yet every time I walk outside there are Christ cultists trying to convert me to their manic delusions.
