You think every American alive can’t handle drinking without a straw?

Americans like ice in all their drinks. Straws are way better when there’s ice. For the rest of the world it’s no problem to drink from a cup.

I’m trying to imagine someone thinking that only yanks like ice in their drinks and that the other 7 billion+ people haven’t discovered ice or something, and it’s quite funny

It is quite an American staple. That’s one thing I hear from my friends who have visited the states, that they like ice in everything.

Edit: also that’s not what they said at all, what kinda trip are you on

People freaked out when cups didn’t say “Merry Christmas”, I think you have too much faith in people.

No seriously, the amount of stupid remarks I hear coming from Europeans is insane, “Americans why do you not have healthcare, if you guys just changed your policies you would be fine, you all love guns and policies that make life a living hell.”

No dumbass, I have no control over my government and not every single American gets pissy over little things because we’re not a hive mind.

That’s like saying every Frenchman riots and is a good lover, it happens but clearly that’s not the case.

I mean we do have control, we vote.

Also, having health care for all isn’t a “little thing”, it can make or break lives…

I’m talking about the straw thing he was on about. That “little thing”

And I honestly think the amount of power our vote is a joke. Between the corrupt gerrymandering politicians and the corporate lobbyists, the average person has little say in our society.

If our vote mattered my generation wouldn’t be struggling to buy food and pay rent for the past decade

Really long way of saying “We’re too cowardly and selfish to get off our fat arses and do something about it, like the french do”

                  Lol

There you go again, lumping all Americans together. You do realize our country is much larger right? I’m sure it’s so simple and easy over in France but over here things are a bit more complicated. We kind of have to struggle over here.

Kind of seems like I’m explaining to a brick wall though

This is actually a legit concern for some people with handicaps. That said, the number of people that just get handed a straw as a matter of course far outnumbers the number that needs it because of handicaps. And of course carrying your own around is a thing.

It’s a fair point that some people would need a straw to drink, but I don’t think it’s entirely unfair to expect them to have a reusable straw or something in preparation. Certainly it seems more reasonable than having the remaining 99% of the population default to having a straw, especially when they probably don’t use one at home anyway.

I 100% agree. At the very least, I don’t think it should be the default expectation that people use and discard a straw with every meal, regardless of what it’s made of. Personally, I have three metal straws. One is a plain straight one, one has a bend in the end, and the last one is collapsible.
